Who is Participating

This map shows the EnerGuide labels of participating homes and their builders. It allows people to compare energy use between homes and it helps make residential greenhouse gas emissions and energy use more visible for everyone.

*Please note, due to the number of homes participating, the map may take up to 30 seconds to load.

WHAT IS ENERGUIDE

EnerGuide is a Natural Resources Canada tool for evaluating home energy performance. The program consists of a home evaluation done by a professional energy advisor, a report with recommendations on upgrades/renovations that could be done to improve the home’s efficiency, and a label with a rating on the energy performance of the home.

The City of Edmonton provides homeowners $100 dollars against the cost of this evaluation when the label is shared on the map above. The map allows people to compare the energy efficiency between similar homes. Energy Efficiency Alberta will contribute $300 towards the cost of the EnerGuide Evaluation.

The goal of the City’s EnerGuide incentive is to help Edmontonians reduce their home’s greenhouse gas emissions and make energy use in homes more visible for everyone.

WHY GET ENERGUIDE?

Knowledge is power (and savings).

An EnerGuide home evaluation helps you make your home more energy efficient, and an efficient home is proven to be healthier and more comfortable. For example:

→ Better insulation and better air sealing means fewer hot spots, cold spots and drafts.

→ Double or triple-glazed windows keep out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter, resulting in less need for heating or air conditioning.

→ Newer heating systems use less energy and run more quietly.

→ A properly insulated foundation means warmer floors.

→ Proper air flow reduces mould problems.

The EnerGuide home evaluation takes a couple hours, and once it’s complete, you will receive a report with recommendations and a label with the home’s energy rating. The reports that comes with your evaluation will help you prioritize what renovations to make and take advantage of available rebates and incentives such as those provided by the City of Edmonton &  Energy Efficiency Alberta’s Home Energy Plan. Rebates include insulation, home heating systems, windows, tankless water heaters, drain water heat recovery, HRV/ERVs, and more.

EnerGuide evaluations and labels are valuable for homebuyers and sellers as well. Not only does it allow them to compare energy efficiency between homes and make better informed decisions, it also provides a roadmap to what improvements the home needs to be more energy efficient.

The biggest reason of all? Emissions. Of Edmonton’s greenhouse gas emissions, 20% are the result of the energy we use in our homes. An EnerGuide home evaluation helps homeowners take a meaningful step towards climate action and reducing their home’s emissions.

WHAT IS ENERGUIDE?

ENERGUIDE HELPS AN OWNER UNDERSTAND THEIR HOME.

Change Homes for Climate – EnerGuide for Builders is a program of the City of Edmonton that helps homeowners understand their home’s energy performance. The Plan consists of an energy evaluation and an EnerGuide label that rates the efficiency of the home.

The City of Edmonton is providing home builders $200 per home against the cost of the energy evaluation. Builders can receive the rebate for up to 10 homes and they are required to share all their new home EnerGuide labels on a map.

EnerGuide labels are shared on a map that allows owners and buyers to compare their property to other similar properties, giving them the confidence that “energy efficiency” is more than a sales pitch, that it can indeed be measured and made visible.

Rebates=$2000

$200 per home for up to 10 homes.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Energuide provides many benefits for home builders, including:

  • Listing your homes on our map is an easy way to inform clients about the energy efficiency of the homes you build so they can compare across different builders.
  • Can be used as an important marketing advantage for high performance builders.
  • Receive immediate recognition on our website as a champion participating builder.
  • Have your company’s logo clearly identified on each home on the map.
  • Gain access to citywide marketing strategies around the program.
  • Streamlined submission process by signing the large volume builder consent form. This allows us to work directly with your Service Organization to make uploading the labels seamless to you.

By sharing EnerGuide labels on our map you are helping make energy efficiency visible. A low (better) EnerGuide rating is the best way to prove that the house you built meets high energy performance standards. And consumers care about those standards. A 2015 survey of home buyers in the region found that 80% of buyers want to see an EnerGuide label on a listing, and 62% would pay more for an energy efficient home. A credible, government approved label give buyers confidence that their home is efficient, comfortable, and up to code.

The biggest reason of all? Emissions. Of Edmonton’s greenhouse gas emissions, 20% are the result of the energy we use in our homes. A good EnerGuide rating lets homebuilders and owners know that they’re taking meaningful steps towards climate action and reducing emissions.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

Get a quote and book an evaluation

  1.  Getting an energy evaluation for the homes you build is as easy as making a phone call to a licensed service provider from this list and getting a quote (or two). Book your evaluations keeping in mind that they take about two hours per home.
  2. After your energy evaluations are done, the City will work directly with your NRCan Service Organization to obtain the EnerGuide labels for the homes you build.
  3. Once you’ve signed up to share the labels from your company, you are then eligible for rebates for up to $2,000 (or $200 per home for up to 10 homes) for the duration of the program.

The City of Edmonton has developed a form that you can integrate into your welcome home package or sales package. The language on this form is consistent with the terms of the Change Homes for Climate program. You can download the template here.

WHAT IS ENERGUIDE?

ENERGUIDE HELPS AN OWNER UNDERSTAND THEIR HOME.

EnerGuide is a Natural Resources Canada tool for evaluating home energy performance. It consists of an evaluation and a label that rates the efficiency of the home. Labels are shared on a map that allows them to compare their property to other similar properties.

EnerGuide labels provide standardized third-party information about rated energy consumption, similar to labels on cars and appliances. This provides an idea of how comfortable and healthy a home will be to live in, and how much it will cost to operate and maintain.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

See the invisible

Most energy efficiency is invisible. Insulation and effective air sealing, high performing windows, and ultra-efficient water or space heating systems all make a home more comfortable and affordable to operate. Trouble is, they’re hard to spot. A low (better) EnerGuide rating is the best way to prove that a home meets high energy performance standards.

Consumers care about these standards. A 2015 survey of home buyers in the region found that 80% of buyers want to see an EnerGuide label on a listing, and 62% would pay more for an energy efficient home. A credible, government approved label give buyers confidence that their home is efficient, comfortable, and up to code.

Displaying an EnerGuide label on our map will set a home apart from the rest. Homes that achieve a higher than average rating should be proudly displayed.

This tells the buyer that a new home was built beyond building code requirements in terms of energy efficiency. And for older homes, the EnerGuide label can prove the value of the home energy improvement investments made in the house. Taking the initiative to get an EnerGuide label, and displaying it on your listing, demonstrates transparency. Buyers appreciate listings that provide full disclosure of any potential issues or concerns. Displaying the EnerGuide label answers questions before they are asked, and can speed up the transaction process.

The biggest reason of all? Emissions. Of Edmonton’s greenhouse gas emissions, 20% are the result of the energy we use in our homes. A good EnerGuide rating lets buyers and owners know that they’re taking meaningful steps towards climate action and reducing emissions.
