* A typical house is a conceptual home that is provided as a reference. It allows you to compare your rating to the rating your house would achieve if it were built to meet typical new home energy performance construction requirements.  It is essentially the same house as if it was built to the standard practices of today.  There are multiple pathways to achieve base building codes.  Compliance or lack of compliance to building codes should not be inferred from the EnerGuide label.

This graph shows the average EnerGuide rating of homes from each age class which have participated in this program. The age classes are determined by significant building code changes.
